Background

One man’s dreams become another’s opportunity

1920s

Valparaiso, or “Vale of Paradise,” was founded in 1921 by Mr. Perrine and named after Valparaiso, Indiana. He intended the city to be a model community of 60,000, complete with an 18-hole golf course.

1930s

After Mr. Perrine’s death, Mr. Plew carried on with the city’s development and in the 1930s leased a large tract of land to the federal government for $1 dollar in the hopes of creating prosperity. That land became The Eglin Air Force Base.

1950s

In the 1950s, the golf course was sold to the federal government and is tended by the Air Force Base. The Florida Northwest Regional Airport is also situated at the base which makes flying, not to mention golf, easily accessible for those who chose to make their homes in Valparaiso.

The rest is history, and today Valparaiso remains a thriving community offering a good selection of affordably priced homes.
