Okaloosa Island & Fort Walton Homes

Whether you're a permanent resident, or a seasonal visitor it won't take long to settle into the "island life" here on Okaloosa Island. This small barrier island just off the coast of Fort Walton Beach and Destin features some of the most pristine beaches and natural attractions along the Emerald Coast. Surrounded by Santa Rosa Sound, Choctawatchee Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, most houses offer at least a "Gulf glimpse", if not a full waterfront view. For many homes, it's only a matter of crossing the street to have both beach and bay access. The waterfront properties have docks, and sometimes covered boat slips and lifts.

Fix & Flip Your Okaloosa Island Home

Most of the neighborhoods in Okaloosa Island are well established and date back to the 70s. In many cases this means larger than average lot sizes, often including swimming pool and ample parking for an RV. Some of the homes on Okaloosa Island have been completely renovated, while others are waiting for your customizations. For those looking for a fix and flip opportunity, the Okaloosa Island market occasionally features older smaller houses that might be picked up for a good price, and because of the prime island location, after being renovated could potentially make a good return as a resale or rental property.

If you're looking for a more low maintenance option, some of the townhouses, such as Clipper Cove offer boat slips as well. There are several options for more traditional condos in Okaloosa Island, but you won't find one over 7 stories high due to the community height restriction.

Okaloosa Island Pier

A major focal point of this Fort Walton barrier island is the Okaloosa Island Pier. Extending 1262 feet, this almost 1/4 mile walkway serves as a popular gathering place for locals and visitors alike. In fact, some people claim their visit to the pier was a highlight of their time spent in Destin.

For just $7.50/person you can indulge in 24 hours of fishing with no license required. Some of the largest fish caught in the area have come from the pier; including tarpon weighing over 100 pounds, 42 pound King Mackerel, plus whiting, bluefish, redfish, bonito, and jack cravelle to name just a few.

Open 24/7 from May-Nov. Winter hours come into effect from mid November through mid March when hours are reduced from 5AM-9PM. Bait is available for purchase, and rods to rent, so don't worry if you didn't come prepared for an afternoon of fishing.

If angling isn't your cup of tea, not to worry, just grab an ice-cream and walk the pier for only $2.00. This is a prime spot to watch for dolphins, sea turtles and other marine life, not to mention some of the creatures accidentally caught or attracted by the fishermen. Besides, the area is full of wonderful restaurants specializing in fresh seafood, so even if you don't catch anything, you'll never go without. Since your pier access allows you to come and go, make sure you return in the evening to take in the sunset. Floyd's restaurant/bar/club is next door, so you've got free music to entertain you all evening.
