We have great weather year-round in Destin, but there is something about the change of the seasons that just makes you want to get out and get active. Try something new, go exploring, be a tourist in your own town. Here are a few ideas for enjoying sping in Destin.
1. Go explore a new beach park
Destin and the surrounding coast has so many amazing beaches, why not pick one you've never been to, pack a lunch and go explore. Henderson State Park Beach was just named one of the top beaches in the United States, if you've never been, it's time to find out why.
2. Spend a day on the water
If you have a boat, make time for the family and spend a day fishing, or moored by a beach. The Gulf Islands National Seashore is a great spot for shelling and checking out marine life. If you don't have a boat, not to worry, local businesses like BoogiesWatersports.com can set you up.
3. Explore Okaloosa Island
Spend an afternoon on Okaloosa Island. Start your day fishing on the 1/4 mile pier, or just have fun seeing all the creatures that the nearby fishermen attract with their bait. Be sure to stop for an ice-cream and check out one of the local fresh seafood restaurants. The largest boardwalk in the area is on Okaloosa Island and a fun place to wander and people watch.
4. Check out the Gulfarium
Visit the Gulfarium, also on Okaloosa Island and interact with dolphins, penguins, sharks and more.
5. Build a sandcastle like a pro
Build a sandcastle, or better yet, take a lesson. Local world champion sand sculptor, Rick Mungeam, set up his own businesses at BeachSandSculptures.com, teaching his love of sandcastle building. Come on your own, or bring the whole family, it's a fun way to spend the afternoon in Destin.
6. Play a Round of Golf
Destin golf courses are among the most impressive in the Emerald Coast area. Treat yourself to a round and lunch at Regatta Bay, Kelly Plantation or one of the Sandestin golf clubs.

Celebration of Wine on the Emerald Coast
March 11-13 is the 30A Wine Festival at Alys Beach. Lot's of local wine producers combined with good food in a stunning beachfront setting.
From April 14-17 experience the Sandestin Wine Festival at Village of Bayshore Wharf. Going strong for 30 years, if you've never attended one of the events, you're way over due. Four days of tastings, wine dinners with celebrity chefs and culinary opulence, this is a not to be missed event.
On April 29, top off the month with the Destin Charity Wine Auction. One of the largest in the country, foodies and wine experts attend this event from all over the world.
March 19 - Tequila and Taco Fest at Destin Harbor: Not quite a wine, but definitely a spirit, experience over 20 varieties of tequila are paired with fish, shrimp, beef and Latin tacos.
March 1 to April 30th, the Destin Cobia Tournament is a month long event at HarborWalk Marina in Destin Harbor. Even if you don't enter, it's fun going down to the docks and watching the weigh-ins.
